Ella's Birth
I wanted to say a special thank you for running your course, as this whole birth experience was amazing.
I keep saying that to people and they look at me like I am a bit weird! But it was all due to your course and my amazing midwife, (and of course Dean and Ella!)
After 2 previous births some years ago, that were both instrumental, required constant fetal heart monitoring, both requiring epidurals as my contractions weren't progressing the cervix opening, and finally requiring forceps for first one and then vontuse for second, I was naturally a bit anxious about this third birth.
But with the knowledge and practical skills that your course provided us both with, we had an incredible third birthing experience.
My waters broke the day before, on the Sunday morning but I didn't go into labour straightaway, and was booked to go in to hospital for an induction and antibiotics the next morning if labour had not started. Luckily Ella had other ideas. We stayed at home until about 6am on the Monday morning and once I was in established labour, met my midwife at hospital and I got into the birth pool at around 7.30am. Lovely Ella was born underwater at 10.30am, I caught her and it was an incredible experience. I had no drugs or pain relief, and my midwife said she was amazed at how the breathing helped me relax and get through the contractions, and then finally breathe her down.
Dean was amazing, reminding me all the way through about the hypnobirthing techniques we had learned. He was also blown away at how different the whole experience was, and we were both quite overcome with emotion at the end.
So I had my peaceful birth that I had wanted, and Dean had the quick one that he wanted!!!
Most amazingly, both my previous babies were 7lb 7oz and 7lb 4oz - Zoey was 9lb 6oz!!!! There was absolutely no fetal distress and I only needed to be monitored periodically.
Also, I was so energised and elated afterwards. We left the hospital, feeling pretty good overall by 2pm and managed to get home in time to meet the big kids after school and introduce them to their new baby sister.
Ella is a lovely, chilled out baby who is feeding brilliantly and growing well - had already exceeded her birth weight within a week of being born. It is a bit of a life change having a newborn again but we are loving it, and she is a wee honey.
So thanks so much for all of your practical advice and for providing such a worthwhile course. We went in feeling prepared and confident and the techniques we learned I will use in other parts of my life as well. (I have been using the breathing to get through the pain of latching on over this first week!!)
I'll definitely let anyone I know who is pregnant about your course.
