Kia ora and welcome! We are thrilled you are considering learning HypnoBirthing for the birth of your baby. Over the past 11 years HypnoBirthing Nelson practitioners have shared essential skills for birth with more than 200 couples.
We (Barbara and Joana) joined the team in 2022. It is our pleasure to offer this service in the Nelson region.
We have personally experienced the benefits of using HypnoBirthing during our own births. We hope you will join us and many new parents who say HypnoBirthing helped them to stay calmer and more relaxed during their baby's births.

More about Joana
Hello. I am Joana.
I live with my husband and our three children in the beautiful Marahau Valley. We live a life connected to nature and the seasons. From an early age I have felt a strong desire to change something in the way we birth today. This desire stemmed from the sadness and guild I knew my mother felt, about the way my own birth went. Despite this I knew it was possible to have natural, empowering and peaceful births – full of trust and confidence in our body and our baby!
So in my first pregnancy I immersed myself in positive birth preparation practices. We had a long but beautiful home-birth. HypnoBirthing truly transformed our second and third birth into wonderful, empowering and natural experiences. Not just for myself, but for my children and my husband as well. I am very thankful for the profound help that Hypnobirthing offered our family! And feel passionate and excited to share this with women and their birth companions in my courses.

More about Barbara
Hello. I am Barbara.
I live with my partner and our two children in the beautiful Mahana Hills, near Upper Moutere. I found my way to hypnobirthing in 2018 when I was pregnant with my first child. I became aware that giving birth evoked uncomfortable associations and fears and decided to look for gentle ways to give birth. Through hypnobirthing, I had two wonderful birthing experiences - intense but in tune and connected with my baby and my body.
I am inspired and passionate about empowering women and their birth companions to experience a peaceful birth, full of trust, no matter what path you choose and what circumstances you encounter.

More about Briony
Hi! I'm Briony Marshall and I am based in Nelson with my husband and our three young boys.
After experiencing calm, natural births, I am passionate about helping others to also have a positive birth. I completed my teacher training last year before having my third baby, so I was able to put everything into practice. As a result I had the most amazing birth; I found my Hypnobirthing training incredibly powerful, as I was able to remain calm and fully trust my body and baby throughout the process.
As a HypnoBirthing practitioner, I enjoy helping to change narratives around birth and giving people the tools and knowledge they need to have confident, empowering births without fear.
I am excited to run classes here in Nelson and share the wonderful benefits of this course.

More about Anna
Hello, I am Anna Wilde. I have been teaching HypnoBirthing classes in Nelson since 2009. I am currently not teaching HypnoBirthing, having recently trained as a primary teacher. I am starting full-time work in my new profession in 2022. I am still passionate about supporting positive birth in Nelson.
My story: When pregnant with my first child I found HypnoBirthing. I read the book and was inspired by the philosophy. However it wasn’t until I completed the practitioner training during my second pregnancy that I truly reaped the benefits. Unlike my first birth, I emerged from my second birth elated; full of joy, energised and connected to my baby. Unlike some HypnoBirthing mothers who experience a totally pain-free birth, my birth did have some intense moments, but I was totally relaxed and could manage really well. It was an awesome birth!
That is why I wish I could give birth again just to use HypnoBirthing once more, but am perfectly happy with just two gorgeous boys.My family and I spent two years living in Japan from 2016-18. I am excited to be back in Nelson teaching HypnoBirthing.
Before becoming a HypnoBirthing practitioner, I worked with pregnant women and couples during my 20 year career as a natural health practitioner . For ten years I was a Shiatsu (acupressure) practitioner and teacher. During this time I enjoyed sharing pressure point massage to reduce pain and to support easier labour with midwives and couples. I moved on on to practice EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), an effective therapy that helps resolve a range of emotional and physical issues. I specialised in infertility, stillbirth, miscarriage and childbirth trauma. Personally, I struggled with infertility for 10 years and finally conceived after a long journey.
I am thrilled to be sharing HypnoBirthing in Nelson, where we have an excellent maternity care system with a range of options and skilled support. My personal goal in offering HypnoBirthing classes is to provide effective, practical relaxation and support skills that help couples feel as calm as possible before and during birth.

More about Kelly
Hi! I'm Kelly Mahuika. I began my journey into the birth world after having our first baby. I trained and worked as a Doula in the USA in 2003, and quickly realized that I enjoyed accompanying women and their partners on their journey towards and into parenthood. Not long after, I began an apprenticeship with a home birth practice, where I worked and studied for two years. We had our second baby during that time as well! When we relocated to New Zealand in 2005, I was pregnant with our third baby. I took the time settle and enjoy new motherhood again. I retrained as a midwife here in New Zealand, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Midwifery in 2011. I have since worked as an LMC (Lead Maternity Carer) and a Core Midwife here in Nelson. I look forward to connecting with, and supporting families in the area to become more prepared for birth. I am a firm believer that women and their partners need to take accountability for preparing their mind and bodies for birth! This natural method of childbirth education can enhance your skills and knowledge for a better birth. I used it for the birth of our third baby, and it better prepared me for the birth. I still utilize the relaxation skills I learned through the HypnoBirthing method today! |
